Writing 'The American Life'

Born in Connecticut in 1970, Weiner jump-started her writing career in Pennsylvania, creating a newspaper column called  Generation XIII.   She then wrote for the Lexington (KY) Herald-Leader before moving to the Philadelphia Inquirer where she continued to write her columns and did feature stories while also writing for such notable magazines as Mademoiselle and Seventeen.

 

Weiner started writing novels in the 2000s and has had great success, including the terrific In Her Shoes  (also made into a feature film). To date, she has authored 13 novels, a collection of short stories, and one nonfiction book, with a reported 11 million copies in print worldwide.  Her 2019 novel, Mrs. Everything, earned raves from readers and critics alike.

A huge Twitter fan and user, Weiner also is famous (or infamous as the case may be) for "live-tweeting" episodes of reality dating shows like The Bachelor and The Bachelorette. 

 

“I don't write literary fiction,” she said.  “I write books that are entertaining, but are also, I hope, well-constructed and thoughtful and funny and have things to say about men and women and families and children and life in America today.”
