Berry, born in Kentucky in August of 1934, is a novelist, poet, essayist, environmental activist, cultural critic, and farmer. Recipient of The National Humanities Medal and a Fellow of The American Academy of Arts and Sciences, he is the first living writer to be inducted into the Kentucky Writers Hall of Fame.
In reading Berry’s essays, I also found the following quote, which I thought
seemed like good descriptive prose for my “off the beaten path” photo (below)
from near Boulder, CO.
“Always … when you leave familiar ground and step off alone into a new place there will be, along with the feelings of curiosity and excitement, a little nagging of dread. Wondering, what might await me there?”
Like the creation of a writer’s moment.
