“Have you ever
seen the dawn? Not a dawn groggy with lack of sleep or hectic with mindless
obligations and you about to rush off on an early adventure or business, but
full of deep silence and absolute clarity of perception? A dawning which you
truly observe, degree by degree. It is the most amazing moment of birth. And
more than anything it can spur you to action.” – Vera Nazarian
Had the first of two “Crack of Dawn” experiences today viewing the
migration of sandhill cranes. More about
that later. Meanwhile, was thinking
about things I’d seen written about “the dawn,” and found the
one above to go along with the stanza from a poem I had picked out earlier.
The poem, penned by Joyce Kilmer, better known
of course for his poem Trees, is called, quote appropriately,
Alarm Clocks.
When Dawn strides out
to wake a dewy farm
Across green fields
and yellow hills of hay
The little twittering
birds laugh in his way
And poise triumphant
on his shining arm.
