A Writer's Moment: 'A Writer's Best Mindset: Be Unafraid'
'A Writer's Best Mindset: Be Unafraid'
“As a
writer, the best mindset is to be unafraid.” – Malcolm Gladwell
Born in
Fareham, England on Sept. 3, 1963, Gladwell (who grew up and still resides in
Canada) writes “optimistic” books and articles that blend social science with engaging
storytelling. Among his thought-provoking
bestsellers are What the Dog Saw: And Other Adventures; Outliers: The
Story of Success and Blink.
Gladwell’s writing style has resonated with readers and all of his books (8 in print, 2 as audiobooks) have made New York Times bestseller lists. His most recent is 2024’s Revenge of the Tipping Point. A longtime staff writer for The New Yorker, he also is a noted essayist and much sought-after speaker. Gladwell said he enjoys collecting interesting stories and interesting research, especially in cases where they overlap.
“I've had
the most untraumatic life a human being can have,” he said. “But I've always been drawn to those who have
had far more complicated histories.”
